 Course Description

This is an introductory course to learn Autodesk Maya 2016. This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn Autodesk Maya for the first time.

Build a strong foundation in Maya the world’s best 3D Animation software with this Course.

  • Learn the basic user interface of Autodesk Maya

  • Understand View port which is Autodesk Maya’s work area

  • Maya is a node based software. So, one lecture is dedicated for understanding Maya Nodes.

3D Animation and Application  Learning Autodesk Maya will enable you to be able to create 3D content for a wide range of applications. By learning Maya you can create

  • Model and animate 3D Animation films

  • Model and animate 3D Advertisements

  • Model and animate 3D Games for a wide range of mediums including mobile apps.

Of course it is not possible to learn everything about Maya this one course. This course will help you to get started with Autodesk Maya 2016. This will be the first step in the journey of exploring Autodesk Maya.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand the basics of Autodesk Maya

  2. Model a simple tree and background

  3. Understand the process of texturing and apply color to all the modeled objects

  4. Render a final image of a tree and the background

Content and Overview

Introduction to Maya 2016 has six sections. Section 1,2 &3 covers some foundation for understanding Autodesk Maya 2016. Section 4 explains the modeling of the tree and the background. Section 5 explains how to apply color (texturing) to the modeled objects. In section 6, we will create lights and render our final image.

Section 1 : Introduction

  • Lecture 1 :
  • This lecture is an introduction to the course
  • Lecture 2 :
  • Maya User Interface
  • This Lecture explains the user interface elements of Maya
  • Lecture 3 :
  • Viewports or the work area
  • Maya's View port is the place that we will spend almost all the time. This is our work area and our 3D space in Maya
  • Lecture 4 :
  • What are nodes?
  • Maya is a node based software. Which means, Nodes are the basic building blocks of a Maya scene. So, it is essential to understand nodes in Maya.

Section 2 : Getting Started

  • Lecture 1 :
  • Understanding Maya Projects
  • Maya project helps to organise all the different media and contents in one folder. Especially while working with textured files, it is important to set project in order to give proper access to the texture files.
  • Lecture 2 :
  • Saving files in Maya
  • While working with heavy files, it is possible that Maya can crash at any point of time. This lecture explains different ways to make sure that our hard work is saved safely.
  • Lecture 3 :
  • Marking Menus & Hotbox
  • Marking menus and hot box are two hidden menu systems in Maya. These can be used as quick access menus which will make our maya workflow much simpler and easy.
  • Lecture 4 :
  • Wireframe mode and shaded mode
  • This lecture explains the ways we can view our 3d models inside maya's viewport.

Section 3 : Working in Maya

  • Lecture 1 :
  • Creating Primitives
  • When it comes to modeling, primitives is a great place to start in Maya. Every model can be simplified to a primitive object like cube, sphere, cylinder etc., This lecture will show you how to create primitive models in Maya.
  • Lecture 2 :
  • Basic Transformations
  • This lecture explains move, rotate and scale which are the 3 basic transformations in Maya.
  • Lecture 3 :
  • Duplicating in Maya
  • This lecture explains the different ways you can duplicate a model in Maya.
  • Lecture 4 :
  • Grouping and Parenting
  • Grouping and Parenting are two different concepts in maya that does almost a similar job. This lecture clearly explains each of them and their uses.
  • Lecture 5 :
  • Selections & Poly Components
  • This lecture explains the different components of a polygonal model and shows you the techniques and methods of selecting objects and components in Maya

Section 4 : Modeling

  • Lecture 1 :
  • Extrude tool
  • Extrude is probably the most used tool while modeling in Maya. This lecture explains the extrude tool in detail.
  • Lecture 2 :
  • Modeling Tree : Root and Trunk
  • In this lecture we will model part of the tree.
  • Lecture 3 :
  • Modeling Tree : Leafs
  • In this lecture we will finish modeling the tree.
  • Lecture 4 :
  • Modeling the mountain
  • In this lecture we will model some small mountains

Section 5 : Texturing

  • Lecture 1 :
  • Hypershade Window
  • Hypershade is the place where we can create color and textures for our models.
  • Lecture 2 :
  • Texturing the Tree and the mountain
  • In this lecture we will texture the tree and the mountain

Section 6 : Lighting&Rendering

  • Lecture 1 :
  • Understadning Maya Lights
  • This lectures gives a basic understanding of Maya Lights
  • Lecture 2 :
  • Lighting and Rendering
  • In this lecture, we will light up and render our scene.
